“La Tela di Penelope” is a social cooperative which deals with job placement. Its special feature is that it uses ancient looms from the 19th century of the former Maggiano Psychiatric Hospital for its textile production work.

You will have the opportunity to be able to “roll up your sleeves” and be able to work like the ancient weavers, for a few minutes, with the cooperation and supervision of the cooperative's operators. You will be guided briefly through a small explanation of the work of weaving and shown the main steps of the process: from the conception of the design, to the choice of material, to the assembly on the warp and loom. You will then be given hands-on experience, using treadles, shuttle and subbio in the right order.

La Tela di Penelope
Penelope's Web is a cooperative that was created through the collaboration of the Mental Health Department of the USL T.O. and “Archimede” APS of Lucca that uses art therapy as a prevalent form of mental rehabilitation. Our work was born with training in the field, with the rhythms proper to textile workshops. Learning the craft of weaving taught us ancient and always new techniques and tools, and gave us the desire to continue doing it and doing it together to improve at work and in our personal journey.
